The Uyghurs in the Northern regions of Xinjiang prefer the Latin alphabet whereas the ones in the South prefer the Arabic script.
In the future, a multi-script converter (that converts pages into Arabic, Cyrillic or Latin) like the one being used in Kazakh Wikipedia can also be used on Uyghur Wikipedia.
In the meantime, I am simply cleaning out image-only pages which do not qualify as stubs. --Jose77 21:56, 21 3-Ay 2007 (UTC)
- Have you, by any chance, been to the Serbian Wikipedia? They have a tab button titled latinica which shows the article in Latin script. Hopefully, we can have something similar here. In case you're wondering who annoyingly typed out a couple of Uyghur articles in Latin and Cyrillic, it was I. But, not to worry, I didn't do so to be annoying: I just thought that redirects could cause a bit of confusion and vexation after awhile. But let's keep the logo how it is; I doubt we could design one that could fit Arabic, Latin, and Cyrillic on it! But I would suggest the "tab" approach. That way, if someone wants to read an article in his/her favoured writing system, s/he can do so just by clicking a button. Additionally, if one searches for an article by typing the title in A/L/C, a redirect could take him/her to that article under the appropriate tab. For instance, if one searches "Өзбек", they are taken to the article (whatever its default name) with the appropriate tab in the foreground. Do you see? That way, there wouldn't be so much argument about which writing system to use. Thanks in advance.—شاشليق 22:20, 21 3-Ay 2007 (UTC)
- Hopefully an Uyghur administrator can implement such a conversion tool in the future. I do not have the technical skills to do it myself. --Jose77 22:39, 21 3-Ay 2007 (UTC)
